A mobile site is similar to a website. However, its size has been reduced to fit the smaller screens of mobile phones. Most of the features available in websites are also present in mobile sites. One can write entries, post pictures, and engage in various interactive activities like surveys and polls.
WAP (Wireless Application Protocol) is a means of presenting and delivering wireless information to mobile phones. It allows phones without mobile versions of full web browsers (IE, Opera, Safari, etc.) to still access the Internet.
Check first if your mobile phone has WAP capability by reading your phone manual or by visiting its manufacturer’s website. If your mobile phone is WAP-capable but is unable to view mobile sites, configure your WAP settings based on your phone’s model and mobile operator.
First check if your mobile phone has WAP capability by reading your phone’s manual. If your device is WAP ready, check if it has the appropriate WAP settings. Mobile phones can access the Internet only if they have the appropriate WAP settings. Some mobile phones have the 0 key as a shortcut for connecting to the Web as indicated by an Internet symbol. For these phones you can press the 0 key for three seconds.
Otherwise, you must go to your phone’s Menu and select Internet/Web Options. Select “Go to address” and type http://www.mobilemo.com/yourmobilesitename. If your mobile phone connects to the Internet, it means that your phone has the right settings and is already WAP enabled. You can begin browsing mobile sites immediately.
However, if your phone displays an error upon pressing the 0 button or after trying to connect to a mobile site, it means that your device does not have the appropriate WAP settings. You have two options:
- Contact your wireless provider/phone operator for your WAP settings for further instruction, or
- Visit the website of your mobile phone maker (e.g. Nokia) and download your WAP settings from their customer support section.
Below are some links for downloading WAP settings:
Nokia:http://www.nokiausa.com/A4410019
Sony Ericsson:: http://www.sonyericsson.com/spg.jsp?cc=gb&lc=en&ver=4000&template=ps3&zone=ps
On the mobile phone menu, select Web/Internet options. Select “Go to address” and type your mobile site's URL.
Press the “OK” or submit button. Your mobile Internet connection will automatically be established and you will be directed to your mobile site.
Upon completion of your registration, you will be sent a confirmation email, then an email containing your account information and instructions on how to activate your account and access your Control Panel. View the quick start guide here.
When already logged in to your mobile site Control Panel, you can quickly access your account page by clicking on Plesk Control Panel on the menu bar.
Email us at help@mobilemo.com. We will get in touch with you and you will be required to give relevant information pertaining to your account for verification purposes before a new password can be sent to you.
Once you are signed up, you will receive an email containing your account information and details on how to point your DNS to your mobile site.
Yes, you can change your domain name, but will mean that all the previous data on your mobile site will be erased.
Click on Mobile Site Pages under Add/Edit Content in the Control Panel. Click on the Template tab. Click on the edit icon beside Profile Page.
Unfortunately, the use of HTML codes in any field in Mobilemo is not allowed for security reasons.
It is where you get an overview of your mobile site status and manage your mobile site. From the Control Panel, you can see how many mobile pages, polls, and forms you have created, and how many files you have uploaded.
The Add/Edit Content box on the left side of the page is where you find tools to build, manage, and promote your mobile site.
The Mobile Site Summary indicates the number of Mobile Pages, Polls and Forms you have created. It also indicates whether you have turned on your Twitter feed, and the Guestbook and Comments features.
It is the live preview of your mobile site. It shows your mobile site exactly as how it would look like on an actual mobile phone. The live preview is interactive and shows your all updates you make in your mobile site in real time.
Use these links to promote your mobile site. Place a link on your email signature, or place the direct link to your mobile site on all your other advertising and corporate communication materials.
It is a two-dimensional barcode that can store different kinds of data. It is different from the linear barcode usually found in consumer products. A mobile code is an image that can be read by either an image scanner (instead of the laser barcode scanner) or a camera phone. A code reader software reads the information stored in the mobile code, and if the code contains a mobile site URL, the software installed on a camera phone will automatically access the mobile site.
It is the type of mobile code that Mobilemo uses. Use this code to promote your mobile site. It is an image file that you can place on printed materials, websites, blogs, and all your other marketing and communication materials. Instead of remembering your mobile site URL, your customers can simply shoot the QR code using their WAP-enabled camera phones and the code reader application on their phones will automatically bring them to your mobile site.
Yes, provided that a code reader application is installed. The latest phone models already come with a built-in code reader. However, users with older phones can download open source/free code reader applications.
Open source/free code reader applications can be easily downloaded over the Internet. Search the term "free mobile code reader software" to get a list of free software providers.
Open the application. It will automatically activate your mobile phone's camera. Point your camera phone on the mobile code and scan the image. The application will launch the mobile site embedded on the code.
The mobile code for your mobile site is the image in the center column of your Control Panel, right beside your mobile site address.
Just click on the image to download your QR code. It will be saved as a jpeg file. Place this image on blogs, print ads, banners, or any other printed communication and promotional materials .
Click on the 'Tell Contacts About Mobilemo' banner on the left column of your Control Panel.
This is where you can find all the tools to create and edit your mobile site. The Add/Edit Content box is on the left column of your Control Panel.
Mobile site pages include your mobile site home page, your profile page, and the mobile pages within your mobile site. Click on Mobile Site Pages on the Control Panel to begin creating and editing your mobile site pages. There are two tabs - Custom and Template.
This is where you create and edit the mobile pages inside your mobile site. You can create as many pages as you want.
Mobile pages are static pages where you could put text, images, and links to other websites (preferably mobile sites for better viewing).
Click "Mobile Site Pages" on the Control Panel. Click the Custom tab on the Mobile Site Pages menu. Click Create New. Choose a template for your mobile page. Then, type the title and the body of the page. Select the image files that you want to include and upload the files. (If you selected a template that allows images). You can also add links to an external site (preferably a mobile site so it can be viewed properly on a mobile device). Click Publish once you are done creating and editing your mobile page.
See the Add Links portion. Type or paste the URL that you want to link on the Link field, then type a title on the Link Name field. While you could post any link, it would be best if the link is also a mobile site for optimized viewing purposes. Full websites are too heavy, difficult to load completely, and inconvenient to view on a mobile phone.
It is where you edit the colors and layout of your mobile site. From the template tab, you can edit the layout and colors of your entire mobile site as well as your profile page.
This is the first page of your mobile site. It is similar to a home page of a regular website.
Click on the edit icon beside Home Page in the Template tab. You can edit the header, body, menu and footer. You can edit both the content and the style (background and font colors).
Insert Banner and Headline/Tagline
You have 2 options: Upload directly from your computer, or choose a file already uploaded on your Files folder.
To add your tagline or a headline, type the text on the Headline field.
Click Publish to save your changes.
Edit Body
This is where can choose the tools you want to appear on your mobile site, the order in which you want them to appear, and edit their titles (Ex. Input specific titles for your mobile pages, polls, forms, etc. instead of using the general titles Mobile Page, Polls, Forms).
Type a customized title for the link on the Link field if you do not want to use the general term (Ex. You can put "Reservation Form" instead of simply "Forms"). Click Add Link if you still want to add more page links.
Click on the link icon to activate a link, or the “x” icon to deactivate a link.
Edit Menu
You can opt to place all your page links on the main body of your home page, or you could place a menu under the main body. Choose Menu from the Template>Home Page menu. Click Content, and the edit fields will appear.
Edit Footer
Choose Footer from the Template>Home Page menu. Type in your footer text and click Publish to save your changes.
Edit Fonts, Backgrounds, and Colors
After editing the content, click Style on the menu to edit fonts and background colors. Pick font family, font weight and alignment from the drop-down menu. Edit font and background colors by typing in the color name or picking from a color palette by clicking on the palette icon. Click Publish to save changes.
Edit Profile
On the Mobile Site Pages>Template menu, click on the edit icon beside Profile.
Type in a headline text such as your company or brand name, your tagline, or any other text you prefer. To place your logo, choose a file already uploaded in your Files folder from the drop-down menu or directly upload an image from your computer.
Place other company/business information such as a brief company profile, contact information, and other relevant company information you would like to share with your customers by filling in the Info Title and Info Description fields. You can place as many information as you like by clicking Add Info to add more fields. Click Publish to save changes.
To edit fonts and background colors, click on the Style tab in the Profile editor. Choose fonts, font styles and alignment from the drop-down menus. To edit font, background and border colors, type in a color name or click the palette icon to choose a color.
They are what you use to build your mobile site and add or edit content. Mobile site tools available are Mobile Pages, Polls, Forms, Journal, Twitter Feed, and Guestbook.
Click on 'Mobile Site Tools' on the Add/Edit Content box. Choose the particular tool you want to access from the tabs.
With the Polls feature, you can conduct a mobile survey on your customers or the general public. Results can be gathered instantaneously. You can set a question and supply a number of choices.
Type in a poll title and a poll question. Then, choose the number of choices that you want, and input the corresponding choices. For example: Title - Four Seasons; Poll Question - Which do you prefer?; Choices - Summer, Winter, Spring, Fall
You can create forms to build a database, get customer feedback, etc. You can create virtually any kind of form such as reservation forms, registration forms, job application forms, etc. The data gathered are exportable to your PC as an Excel file, so you do not have to manually copy the data from your mobile site.
Type in a title for your form. You may also write a short description or message, but this is not required. Then, choose the number of fields for the user input. For example: Form Title - Customer Feedback; Description - We'd like to know what you think of our service. User Input - Name, Email, City, Feedback
It is a page where all the updates you post in Twitter are automatically imported and updated in real time. Visitors to your mobile site can see all your tweets even without leaving your mobile site.
Go to the Twitter tab on the Mobile Site Tools page. Log in with your Twitter user name and password to activate the feed. Once it is activated, you will see your most recent tweets. Set how many tweets you want to appear on the feed by selecting the number from the drop down menu.
Yes. You can enable integration with third-party advertising networks such as Google Adsense, Mojiva, AdMob, etc. You can also publish your own ads.
You must first sign up and set up an account with an ad network. Once you have signed up with an ad network, you will be given a set of codes to let you publish ads on your mobile site.
Click on the Ads tab under Mobile Site Tools on the Control Panel.
To publish own ad: Choose “Own Ad”. Choose the ad image from the drop-down menu of files already uploaded on your mobile site, or click “Upload Image” to directly upload a file from your PC. Type the URL of the site linked to the ad. Click “Save ads”.
To publish ad network ads:
Choose “Ad Network”. Paste the ad network code on the text field. Click “Save ads”.
On the Add/Edit Content box, click Manage Files. Click the “Browse” button and locate the file that you wish to upload. Upon locating the file, double click it. Its location will automatically be reflected on the file location box. Click the Upload button. This will upload your files to the Documents folder. Once your files have been uploaded, you can select whether you want it to be a public or a private file.
The "Private" setting is very useful for backup purposes. You can also use this setting when uploading images that you will be using for your mobile site template.
Contents of the shared files folder may be viewed and downloaded by the public anytime through mobile phones or PCs.
The briefcase serves as your personal file folder where you can upload private files for easy retrieval anytime, anywhere. This can serve as another way to backup your files. You may use your mobile phone or PC to directly download contents from this folder.
There are no restrictions in dimension for image files. However, if images are intended to be viewed on a mobile phone, adjustments in dimension and consequently file size are necessary for faster downloading and more convenient viewing. You can do this by using any photo editing application/software. The recommended dimensions are:
- 240x240 pixels for square images;
- 240x320 pixels for vertically-oriented images (portrait); and,
- 320x240 pixels for horizontally-oriented (landscape) images.
There are two ways to reduce the size of an image file. One, reduce its dimensions. Recommended dimensions for mobile viewing are 240x240, 240x320, or 320x240pixels depending on the layout of the image. Two, decrease the image resolution. Recommended resolution for mobile viewing is 72 dots per inch (dpi).
Mobile phones have various orientations in displaying images depending on their MMS settings or mobile screen dimensions. Some phones display images in a square frame while others adopt the actual screen (LCD) size which may be oriented vertically (portrait) or horizontally (landscape). If a square image is downloaded from a mobile phone that views images through an upright rectangle screen (portrait orientation), the image will most likely be stretched vertically. On the other hand, if an image has a portrait layout but is downloaded and viewed using a mobile phone that views in a landscape orientation, the file will be cropped vertically, dwarfing the image. There are many other factors that may distort images, mainly due to conflict between the actual image dimension and the mobile phone screen size.
Use any other photo editing software to resize images to 240x240 dimension (square layout) to minimize distortion,320x240 pixels (for lanscape dimension) or, 240x320 pixels (fro portrait orientation) to minimize distortion.
3GP (.3gp or .3g2) is a multimedia format for use on 3G mobile phones. 3GP describes image sizes and bandwidth, thus ensuring that content is correctly sized for mobile display screens. Use a Multimedia Converter, such as the Nokia Multimedia Converter, to convert common audio or video files (AVI, WAV, MPEG, and MP3) to 3GP.
